I’ve found that most of the good things don’t go by the clock.

Babies don’t pay attention to due dates.

Beautiful days don’t heed your calendar.

There is no universal law that says that you have to wait exactly 180 days before you can officially pronounce that you are in love and that it is real.

There is no doctrine that says you have to search for houses for three months before finding your dream home.

Same goes for jobs. Or careers. Or a good pair of blue jeans. Or a story, blog post, novel, poem. All of it.

There is no logic. No rationale. No formula. No reason.

Simply put: you know when you know. You know?

Of course, you might move. You might move on. You might find another passion. Eventually.

That’s not the point.

I’m not talking about forever, no one can claim forever. In case you hadn’t noticed, ‘forever’ is in this vague, non-tangible, surreal thing we call ‘the future’.

But anyone can claim today. Right now. Exactly how you feel. When it feels right.

Anything right with you right now that you want to write about?

I have met the most glorious person. It’s not that he completes me – I’m complete by myself – but my LIFE feels complete with him in it. We talked and I knew before we’d even kissed. I knew with my whole heart that he was right for me. That everything in our separate lives had built to our life now together.

I think how sure we are scares the people around us. Neither of us are usually like this, no one wants us to get hurt. But it is just RIGHT. Like puzzle pieces. Or peanut butter and jelly. Or those deliciously cool days when the breeze is just strong enough you need long sleeves (but can still wear shorts) and it feels like if you spread your arms you could just fly away.

The world might rest easier if I took those 180 days you mentioned, but I wouldn’t. Where’s the closest mountaintop? I need to shout about love!

Heather! I love this! Thank you so much for shouting about your love here! You obviously got right to the spirit of this post. So happy for you.

I try to make every day as “right” as possible. Even when things are not going my way and I am having a particularly hard day I try to focus on the things that are good in my life which are many. Thanks for reminding people of this. Only we can define what is right for us!

Another one of my friends told me today that she loved my novel :) Some mornings I forget to pat myself on the back and smile – thank god for the wonderful people in my life who help me out with that once in a while!

  • Julie Roads says:

Res! Congrats…pat and smile away. By all means.

2 words: Thank you! Lately, I’ve found myself having to explain or justify my choices to people who shouldn’t question them, and this post just reminded me that your life is YOUR life. If you fall in love in a week, or you want to make babies today but change your mind tomorrow, it only matters to you. People will criticize and judge every choice you make, but once you realize, accept, and understand that your choices are to make yourself happy, then none of it matters and you can live as freely as you wish!
